Author Biography
Jane Austen was born in 1775 in the town of Steventon England where she lived for 25 years before moving to Bath in 1801. Jane love writing from a young age and began writing Pride and Prejudice (originally called First Impression) when she was in her early teens. Austen’s in depth knowledge of the triumphs and heartaches of love come from her own experiences. Austen was born into a middle class family (very much like the Bennets) and she and her sister were expected to marry someone who could take care of them financially. Austen did catch the eye of a particular gentleman named Tom Lefroy. She and Tom had a relatively public relationship and she spoke openly about their love (particularly to her eldest sister Cassandra with whom she was very close, very much like Jane and Elizabeth). Unfortunately the relationship did not work out because Tom’s family pressured him into married someone of higher social standing. Although this left Austen heartbroken it inspired her to write some of her most impressive works.
